SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention overnight released new guidelines to help curb the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.
According to the CDC, the best way to prevent the illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Health officials are now urging people across the nation to postpone any events with 50 or more attendees for at least eight weeks. This includes events like festivals, parades, sporting events, concerts and weddings.
CDC authorities said rescheduling large events and limiting large crowds could help protect vulnerable people from getting the coronavirus.
That recommendation, however, doesn’t apply to schools and colleges or businesses.
“The worst is, yes, ahead for us,” said Dr. Anothony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “It is how we respond to that challenge that’s going to determine what the ultimate end point is going to be.”
