SALT LAKE CITY — General Conference will be moved to a small auditorium on Temple Square, officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced. The sessions will be attended only by those assigned to speak, pray and conduct.
The First Presidency will preside at and conduct each of the five sessions.
The change announced Thursday afternoon by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Officials said the change was made to follow due COVID-19 guidelines issued from local and national experts.
Each session will now be broadcast from a small auditorium on Temple Square. The First Presidency will preside and conduct those sessions. The music for the conference has been pre-recorded.

“Recent days have brought new guidelines from experts around the world. After counseling as the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, we have felt it wise to modify further the format of our April 2020 general conference,” Church leaders said in a statement.
As part of the change, the music for each session has been prerecorded.
Weeks ago, Church officials canceled leadership sessions for the conference, and asked General Authorities from around the world to remain where they were. Then, the decision was made to make conference available through “technology only,” without an in-person audience.
People who wish to view the conference can watch on KSL TV, KSLTV.com and the KSL TV streaming app.

How Do I Prevent It?
The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:
- Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
- Avoid touching your face
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
The CDC does not recommend wearing a face mask respirator to protect yourself from coronavirus unless a healthcare professional recommends it.
