Provo Catering Company Donates Meals From Cancelled Events

PROVO, Utah — Like many local businesses, Landmark Catering in Provo has had to make adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they’re using this time to give back, donating the meals from their cancelled events to those in need.

In March, several customers called to cancel their events, which immediately impacted the company’s calendar.

“When the governor gave the directive of gathering of 10 or less, that kind of cut us out,” said Elaine Porter, owner of Landmark Catering.

But thanks to the generosity of some of their customers who cancelled their events and donated the meals, the company was able to keep afloat.

“They called and said just keep the food, and pass it to someone in need,” Porter said.

Nearly 300 meals were donated, and the company has been packaging them up for people in need.

“We got to thinking why don’t we just give out what we have,” Hal Porter said. “This is one method in which we thought would be one good way to actually serve our community.”

The company has been dropping off the free meals for nearly three weeks, choosing people who can’t afford to cook a good meal right now.

“Some of them don’t know it’s coming, we just show up,” Porter said.

Porter said the adjustment from catering to home delivery has thankfully been a smooth one.

“We are trying to find other ways and methods to be able to get through this,” Hal Porter said. “We don’t know, I don’t think anybody knows, how long this is going to last.”

The company also has items like flour, yeast, rice and beans that they would normally be using for their large events, but instead are selling them from their Provo location or online.
