Employees: Bed Bath & Beyond To Lay Off Hundreds Of Workers

LAYTON, Utah – As state leaders work on a new plan to get the economy back on track, Bed Bath & Beyond is reportedly preparing to lay off hundreds of employees at a contact service center in Layton.

For three months, the building’s been mostly empty, and that’s not about to change.

Hundreds of employees who have been working from home because of the coronavirus will likely never return to Bed Bath & Beyond’s Layton Contact Service Center.

“They’re being completely let go,” said one man who didn’t want to be identified for fear of retaliation. His wife has been working fulltime at the center for more than three years.

Then on Tuesday, she received a notice in her work email saying the company “has taken steps to restructure in order to build greater efficiencies within the organization. As a result, your position will be eliminated…”

“We just got blindsided yesterday with the announcement,” her husband said. “We still rely on her income to help support me and support her because I’m working full-time and going to school full-time.”

Two other employees at the center confirmed they received the same message.

“The permanent termination of up to approximately 285 employees,” the letter said.

The notice says employees will receive regular pay and benefits until August 15 and then will be eligible for severance and benefits based on the position and length of service. Still, employees were upset their jobs appear to be headed overseas.

“I just don’t think they should be taking away American jobs when everyone’s struggling enough right now,” the man said.

KSL TV reached out to Bed Bath & Beyond via email but had not heard back as of Wednesday night.
