SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – All Utahns ages 16 and older, regardless of health conditions, are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Several counties opened registration earlier in the week, and residents in the rest of the state can now start scheduling their appointments.
In Salt Lake County, appointments opened up for everyone beginning Monday, and 17-year-old Sienna Martinez Huff, was among one of those who signed up right away.
“Obviously there’s, like, still a. little bit of fear, but I am more excited than scared,” she said.
Those who are booking appointments should keep in mind that there are other vaccination partners in each county. Pharmacies and health care providers are also offering the vaccine in addition to county health departments.
Utahns can also book an appointment in any county, not just the one in which they live. However, if you’re getting a vaccine that requires two doses, you will be required to get your second dose from the same location you got your first. So if you make an appointment in a neighboring county, you’ll need to return to that county for your follow-up immunization.
Gov. Spencer Cox said patience is key. Most residents who make appointments this week will likely have to book vaccinations 2 – 3 weeks out.
The governor said Utahns should not book multiple appointments because it can lead to unused doses of the vaccine. If you have an opportunity to get a vaccine sooner than your scheduled appointment, make sure to cancel your original immunization so that spot can go to someone else.
