ST. GEORGE, Utah — A wanted California man was found and arrested in Southern Utah after officials say he abducted a child.
The incident unfolded Friday, April 16, after investigators said they received information that Robert Preston Crowe of San Diego was hiding with the child near Apple Valley, Utah.
A strike team used a fixed-wing aircraft to locate Crowe’s vehicle at a rural campsite in Washington County, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
The Marshal Service and members from several Utah agencies then entered the campground.
After some time, officials said Crowe surrendered. The child was also located and rescued, according to the release.
“This is an example of the benefit of the collaborative law enforcement partnerships we have, not only along the Wasatch Front but throughout the state. Because of this partnership, the USMS safely returned a child to his family, and a perpetrator was arrested without incident. While the US Marshals Service has many responsibilities, no mission is more important or more rewarding than helping a family reunite with a missing child,” said Matthew D. Harris, the US Marshal for the District of Utah.
Additional details about the kidnapping and the events that unfolded after were not immediately available.
