Utah Gov. Spencer Cox Appointed To President Biden’s Council of Governors

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – President Biden appointed nine governors to his Council of Governors including Utah’s Republican Governor Spencer Cox.
A news release from the White House Thursday said, “The bipartisan Council of Governors serves as the lead forum to strengthen partnerships between the Federal government and State governments to better protect our nation from threats to our homeland security and all types of hazards.”
The Council links state and federal agencies for matters of homeland security which can include extreme weather, terrorism, and the pandemic.
Cox released a statement that said, “We’re grateful for this appointment that gives Utah a seat at the table, particularly with respect to disaster preparedness and response as well as best use of the National Guard. I look forward to engaging with my fellow governors and President Biden as we serve our state and the nation.”
Other than governors the council includes leaders from the president’s cabinet, the military, and FEMA.
The appointed governors will serve a two-year term.

- Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Co-Chair
- Delaware Governor John Carney
- Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards
- Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer
- Oregon Governor Kate Brown
- Vermont Governor Phil Scott
- Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon
The nine Governors will join Tennessee Governor Bill Lee on the council. Governor Lee’s term expires in 2022.
