CENTERVILLE, Utah — Police said they are investigating a 33-year-old man from Provo for driving while under the influence and three hit-and-run crashes Saturday afternoon in Davis County.
Trooper Colton Freckleton with the Utah Highway Patrol said it all started on Layton Parkway when the driver of a Chevy Cruze hit a semi while traveling southbound and continued driving.
After that, the vehicle was involved in two more hit-and-runs, making a total of three crashes.
The vehicle in the third incident, Freckleton said, was pushed into the exit lane, where it eventually crashed into the Parrish Lane exit sign in Centerville.
When a UHP trooper arrived on scene, the driver of the Chevy pulled over to the side and was “creeping slow.”
Freckleton described the suspect as a “rowdy male,” adding that he was yelling and cussing as the trooper approached the car.
At that point, the trooper retreated back to his vehicle.
Then, the suspect opened his car door and began throwing Xbox games and an open foldable knife at the trooper, according to Freckleton.
The knife missed the trooper, but it hit his hood and windshield.
“The trooper was making a felony stop on him — you know, giving him commands to come back to his vehicle and place him under arrest,” said Freckleton.
That’s when officers with the Centerville Police Department arrived on scene to assist.
Freckleton said the suspect, a 33-year-old man from Provo, eventually complied and was taken into custody.
