SALT LAKE CITY – Spider-Man, No Way Home is bringing in rave reviews and big bucks and along with that, there’s hope that it could signal the return to theaters that many people have been waiting for.
Many would argue that movies continue to be back but maybe not in as big a way as we’re seeing now.
No Way Home is already breaking the record for Sony’s biggest opening ever.
A lot of people now hoping that momentum will continue.
If we could only slip through the multiverse to a place where COVID-19 never existed and the film industry never took a big loss.
“I like the experience. I like the big screen. I like the sound, uh, I like the popcorn,” said movie fan Makenzie White.
She and her friend Makayla Dunbar checked out No Way Home on Friday.
They were happy to see times like those before COVID-19 seemingly coming back.
“I cried, she cried, everybody cried,” Dunbar said, “It’s actually a full range of emotions for Peter Parker’s story but excitement too, that large numbers are returning to the movies.”
“It’s been so fantastic,” said Blake Anderson, president of Megaplex theaters. “We’re seeing everyone from the little kids, who are Spiker-Man fans, to their parents and grandparents who also grew up and loved Spider-Man.”
Anderson said the movie is exceeding expectations and bringing easily the largest crowds they’ve seen since the start of the pandemic.
Fan Andrew Corbett said, “It’s amazing. They did an amazing job.”
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the movie seems to be pretty good too.
“Personally my favorite out of the three. I really enjoyed the first two, and this one just topped both of those,” Spider-Man fan Jack Rich said.
Those in the movie industry are saying it’s a solid sign that the pastime of heading to the theater isn’t being replaced by the movies at home anytime soon.
“I’m going to say you have to see these movies on the big screen. So many people tell us that,” Anderson said. “We have heated luxury recliners, Dolby Atmos sound, your big bucket of Megaplex popcorn with real butter. There’s no better way to see a movie.”
Andersen added Megaplex will continue their pandemic safety measures, with extra cleaning, social distancing, and HEPA filters in their HVAC systems.
