CEDAR CITY, Utah — A multi-day search for three runaway teens from Cedar City has ended after authorities say they were located early Saturday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the teens were found by family and Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The agency was first notified about the teens around 8 p.m. Thursday.
“It was reported that the youth had been dropped off at the grocery store in Orderville, Utah,” read the release.
Officials said deputies spent several hours Thursday night investigating the case, “confirming that they had been at the store and were possibly camping in an undisclosed location.”
The investigation continued Friday as Sheriff’s Office personnel worked on leads.
“Friday afternoon a family member who was helping search located what he believed were items belonging to the teens on a dirt road south of the Glendale Bench Road,” stated the release.
Kane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was then activated.
Crew members assisted deputies in the search, according to the release, until about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Later that day, around noon, Kane County Dispatch received a tip about the youth’s location.
“Deputies were provided with GPS coordinates, and they responded to the area on Glendale Bench where it was believed the youth had spent the night,” the release stated.
Family members had received a call from the teens and had located them by the time deputies arrived on scene, according to the release.
Authorities said the teens were checked out and found to be healthy and uninjured. They were then released to their families.
“Kane County deputies and volunteers spend around 200 hours of time on the case and are happy about the positive outcome and that the youth have been reunited with their families,” concluded the release.
