How do I decide which security solutions are right for me?

Security solutions are more than simply how you use and store information on your computer. It is crucial to come up with a plan to keep your employees, customers, and clients safe. When you compare different security systems for your office, school, or other building, you want to keep some things in mind. Digital security is of course important, too, but in this article, we break down ways you can keep your building secure. This way, you can rest easy knowing that your people and assets are protected.

Perform an audit to understand how your security works now

Knowing where you’re at now is the first step to secure your workplace. Check how people go through your entrance and access office spaces. Figure out if the lighting outside your building is functioning the right way. Do a walk around and note where all the windows, doors, and other places of entry are located.

Some questions you might ask during this audit include:

  • Are you using physical copies of keys or a key-code security system?
  • Do you use commercial video surveillance to monitor unusual activity?
  • How much storage does that take in your computer system?
  • Do you have mobile access to turn off false alarms or view live footage?

You may also want to review the following:

  • Who has access to the building after hours?
  • Who can park in your lot?
  • How do you accept deliveries?
  • How do you allow guests in for interviews or meetings?

Another item of concern is the security of your server room. If you work mostly online, you’ll want to make sure that room has professional security monitoring around it to protect your data.

Smart features to look for to keep your building safe

The most obvious advances in security solutions are high-quality video surveillance and storage. You should aim to have high-quality footage that doesn’t take up too much storage space. A system with cloud storage is one way to resolve that. Plus, it allows you to access footage from a mobile device. That makes it easy for managers to see what’s going on even if they’re away from their computers.

There are also many upgrades in technology with features like facial ID and license recognition. This allows you to label people or license plate numbers that you don’t want to allow in. It can also spot people as safe and give remote access to people without access cards. This can help delivery drivers drop off packages even if no one is in the office.
