How to stay safe during a wildfire

The American Red Cross has posted several tips about keeping your family and home safe during a wildfire.

First, if you live in an area close to an active or potential wildfire area, stay in tune with local area radio and television stations. Get a NOAA weather radio (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and put it in a place where you’ll hear any updates when they come down.

Second, be ready at a moment’s notice to evacuate. Keep emergency kits handy, along with your important documents and an overnight bag with items for each family member so you can evacuate at a moment’s notice.

Third, check your emergency kit often, and replace any items missing, in short supply, or expired. If you or family members take regular prescriptions, make sure you’ll have a supply if you need to leave your home.
