NTSB Investigating Crash, Says Man Had Commercial Pilot License

PAYSON, Utah – A pilot crashed a plane into his own home in Payson Monday morning, killing himself. His wife and a juvenile, who were home at the time, were not injured.
Payson Police Department said they weren’t sure of the juvenile’s connection the pilot, Duane Youd.
The NTSB is on scene investigating the crash. They’re looking at the damage to determine the speed and the angle that the plane hit the house. They believe the right wing hit the car causing it to move, but they also think that may have slowed the plane down.

After documenting the crash site, the NTSB will begin moving the wreckage. They will have to be careful as the plane hit the foundation, making the home unsound. The cockpit is several feet inside the home. They will be releasing a preliminary report in five business days. The final report could take a year.
The NTSB said Youd had a commercial pilot’s license, meaning he had more training than a private pilot.
“So, you would expect him to have a great deal of airmanship with flying the airplane,” said Jason Aguilera, air safety investigator, NTSB.
