West Valley City Police Department Mourns Loss of Retired Lt. Jim Crowley

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The West Valley City Police department is mourning the death of one of their own, retired Lt. James “Jim” Crowley.

Crowley was hired as a police officer in West Valley when the City incorporated in 1980 and he retired after 33 years of service in 2013. He served a total of 41 years in law enforcement.

During his tenure, Crowley held many positions in multiple divisions.

In a Facebook post, the department wrote that he was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2000. Two years later, in 2002, he was promoted to rank of lieutenant where he spent the rest of his career as a supervisor in the patrol and investigations division. He was also assigned to the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Task force, and the Office of the Chief.

Following his retirement, The department wrote that Crowley remained an active supporter of the department as a member of the West Valley City Honorary Colonels.

He was an integral part of bringing the Fraternal Order of Police to the State of Utah and was the longest standing state trustee on the national level at the time of his death. Crowley dedicated his life to the profession.
