UHP Struggling to Keep Up with 70+ Crashes, Asking People To Spread the Word and ‘Slow Down’

NEPHI, Utah – Utah Highway Patrol troopers near Nephi are struggling to keep up with crashes on I-15.
They are asking the public for help getting the word out to “PLEASE SLOW DOWN!” They say that if you think you’re driving slow enough still knock 10-15 more miles per hour off your speed and that will probably be about right.
Around 5:30 a.m. crashes started piling near Nephi on I-15, UHP wrote in a tweet. Troopers have been working hard to keep up with the weekend traffic and adverse road conditions.

Lt. Scott Robertson issued a plea for drivers to slow down in the area and be aware of icy roads through Juab County.
UHP Cpl. Chris Bishop said they have responded to 91 crashes as of 7:27 p.m. combined from both Utah County and Salt Lake County and 248 crashes as of 9 p.m. Sunday statewide.
In snow-packed roads you should have 8-10 seconds of following distance. If/when that car in front of you spins out, you’ll want the extra time to react and avoid it.
