Former Teacher Accused Of Shooting Ex’s Girlfriend Appears In Court

WEST JORDAN, Utah – The former Alpine District high school teacher accused of shooting and killing her ex-husband’s girlfriend in front of her own children made her initial appearance in court Monday.
Chelsea Watrous Cook is facing multiple felonies including aggravated murder charges and two counts of committing a violent offense in the presence of a child, a class B misdemeanor.
Cook, who was a teacher at Skyridge High School in Lehi, spoke only when spoken to and asked for an appointed attorney.
Authorities said on the night of Nov. 25, the 32-year-old was seen on security footage slipping into the front door of her ex-husband’s apartment in Midvale. He had gone to the parking lot to meet her to collect cold medicine for their two kids. He then returned to find her inside the apartment with their 3-year-old twins and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Lisa Williams.
Cook was reportedly asked to leave multiple times. Eventually, 911 was called and Cook locked herself in the bathroom. Moments later it’s reported she walked out, pulled a gun from her jacket and shot Williams multiple times.
Williams was reportedly decorating the Christmas tree with the children at the time.
Cook could face the death penalty if convicted. Her next court date is scheduled for Jan. 8.
