Candlelight Vigil Held In Honor Of Slain Real Estate Agent

SANDY, Utah – Family, friends and community members came together Monday evening to hold a candlelight vigil in honor of slain real estate agent and father of four, David Stokoe.

On a night with temperatures falling below freezing, people began gathering outside. Monday’s snowstorm couldn’t keep the close to 200 people away.

“We just want to thank everyone for coming out tonight,” said Britt Sharp, President of RanLife Real Estate.

They prepared food, shared hugs and shared memories of a man they still can’t believe is gone. Nobody expects to have a candlelight vigil for a beloved employee and friend in their office parking lot. However, on Monday night, those who worked day in and day out with David Stokoe wanted to remember.

“He was so invested in the success of everyone around him,” said one co-worker. “He was more unbelievable than anyone I’ve ever know.”

“Dave built great relationships with everyone,” said another co-worker. “He was so intuitive.”

Stokoe’s family members didn’t speak but the people he worked with said he always made them feel like family.

“He made you feel like you were one of his best friends and someone special,” Sharp said.

That’s why it’s so hard for them to believe he won’t be coming back to RanLife Real estate in Sandy.

The father of four was shot and killed while checking on a rental property in Salt Lake City last week.

“I think that getting together it just allows us all to process,” Sharp said. “It was just so sudden how this all happened, and it allows us to work through it in our minds a little bit. We want to remember him and the good times and focus on him, and not just all the awful things we heard this past weekend.”

Monday night’s candle light vigil was about celebrating his life and honoring the man they all grew to love.

“I’m grateful for every moment we got to share with him,” Sharp said.

A GoFundMe account has been created in his name to help his family pay for upcoming expenses.
