SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!”
The excitement was palpable for Salt Lake City firefighters in a post on Facebook after they finished a 24-floor climb, which is 624 stairs, at the Wells Fargo building Saturday morning.
The SLCFD was helping raise awareness and money to beat cancer for the OutClimb Cancer Challenge event.
The race featured firefighters from around the state, and it was the SLCFD that won the fastest team event with 5:33, and it was one of their firefighters, Justin Ward, who got the overall fastest time at 4:42.
According to the website, the OutClimb Cancer Challenge is a test of speed (a chip-timed event) and endurance (total number of climbs to the top). This unique experience is a philanthropic endeavor organized by a team of volunteers for the benefit of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
100% of all funds raised goes to fund life-saving research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Since the beginning of this event, four years ago, the OutClimb Cancer Challenge has raised over $195,000 for cancer research!
