Man Charged With Threatening To Kill Judge So He Could Return To Prison

WEST JORDAN, Utah – A man is facing charges after prosecutors said he threatened to kill a judge Monday so he could go back to prison.
According to charging documents, John Alden Powell, 43, of West Jordan, used a phone at a gas station to call 911 and threaten to kill the judge who oversaw another case in which Powell had been convicted.
Powell told police that a judge was mad at him for calling 911 too many times, so he was going to kill the judge so he could go back to prison “where he wanted to be,” according to the charges.
Police said Powell has a history of calling 911 and saying he wants to go back to jail.
He has been charged with threatening a judge, a third-degree felony.
