FCC Warns Of One-Ring Robocalls

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The FCC is telling people to be aware of a new phone scam: one-ring robocalls.
Officials say the calls target specific area codes in bursts, often calling multiple times and in the middle of the night.
The goal is to try and get the person to call the number back. That results in per-minute toll charges, sometimes in the thousands of dollars.
Be on the lookout for calls coming from the West African country code 222. Those who receive these types of calls are asked to file a complaint with the FCC at fcc.gov/complaints.
According to the FCC, you should never call back numbers you do not recognize, especially those that appear to originate overseas. You should also check your phone bill for charges you don’t recognize, and consider contacting your phone company to have international calls blocked to prevent accidental toll calls.
