Orphaned Bird Gets Uber Ride To Wildlife Rehab Center

OGDEN, Utah – An orphaned baby bird was the sole occupant of an Uber ride to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah earlier this week. He’s now doing well, and learning to fly.

According to WRCNU, the person who found the baby Lesser Goldfinch was not able to drive after drinking.

“Thank you to the rescuer who helped this little one get the care it needed in a timely manner, and thank you for keeping yourself safe and others on the road safe as well!” WRCNU said in a Facebook post.

Rather than leaving the small bird to fend for itself, the rescuer arranged for the Uber to take it to the Ogden wildlife rehab.

“While we feel we’ve seen it all and can’t be amazed by anything, there is always SOMEONE out there to prove us wrong,” WRCNU said.

Dayln Marthaler, Executive Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah, said the bird, who they had been calling “Uber,” is doing very well now.

“He’s doing great, and he has a little buddy,” Marthaler said.

Another Goldfinch in the facility is showing “Uber” his wings. Marthaler said “Uber” is being hand fed a species-specific food until he can feed on his own. She expects him to be flying on his own within a week. At that point, “Uber” will be the same size as an adult, and he’ll be introduced to an enclosure where he can practice finding food, and return to be fed as well. When the bird can manage on its own, it will be released.

Marthaler said if anyone sees an injured or orphaned bird, they should call the wildlife rehab center before they feed or touch it.

“Give us a call before you act,” she said.
