SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A Greyhound station in Salt Lake City was evacuated Thursday morning after security personnel discovered a suspicious package, authorities said.
Evacuations began at approximately 10 a.m. at the station that’s part of the Intermodal Hub located at 300 South and 600 West.
“I’m not exactly sure at this point what they deemed to be suspicious about it,” Utah Transit Authority Spokesman Carl Arky said. “But they thought it was serious enough and important enough that they get everybody out of the building.”
Salt Lake Central Station was closed temporarily due to the incident. TRAX lines experienced some delays, and bus bridges were put in place to shuttle commuters to Planetarium and Arena stations, according to UTA. The station reopened at approximately 11:45 after officials cleared the scene.
“It’s a major transportation hub,” Arky said. “A lot of transportation modes come together there. A lot of people come together there, so nobody wanted to take any chances.”
