SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A restaurant owner who used a fire extinguisher to spray a smoker in the face announced his departure from his business.

According to a Facebook post on Sept. 23, Alex Jamison said he he is “no longer a shareholder” of the restaurants Monkeywrench and Bolt Cutter.

“Over the weekend I was involved in an incident and I am here to take full accountability for my actions,” Jamison wrote. “My behavior was unnecessary, and no way to treat another person regardless of circumstance.”

Jamison was recorded spraying Jon Bird in the face after he reportedly told Bird to stop smoking near his restaurant.

In the Facebook post, Jamison wrote that he and his business partner started the company to “promote the message of non-violence towards all beings,” and he noted his actions “starkly contradicted that.”

“I am deeply sorry for any harm I brought to the other individual involved, our staff and the vegan movement.”

Jamison asked that further comments be directed to his personal Facebook page, writing that “the business and staff do not deserve the toxic hate, negativity and threats — they’ve done nothing wrong and should not be punished for my choice.”

Bird said he is experiencing various side effects including shortness of breath and headaches from the chemicals in the fire extinguisher that he inhaled. Bird and his girlfriend, who filmed the incident and was splashed with chemicals, went to the hospital Saturday for a check-up.
