SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Crews with the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a house fire at 719 East Logan Avenue and found the body of an elderly man inside the structure.
Officials said the fire was first reported Friday around 7:05 a.m.
Neighbors told firefighters they saw the porch area of the house on fire and the homeowner was not accounted for.
“They reported an elderly male. Firefighters did a quick knock of the fire externally and then made entry into the home for an internal search. They did find the individual, it is a deceased male in that home,” said Captain Anthony Burton with the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
Multiple neighbors that spoke with KSL described the man as an older gentleman in his 70s. They said he lived alone at the home and is a long-time resident. One neighbor said he had some medical conditions.
One neighbor said the victim is a good friend and they spoke just last night. The neighbor said he doesn’t think the victim had updated smoke detectors and the home was in need of some maintenance.
Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire and the cause of death for the victim. The victim’s name was not released.
