SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Two aftershocks that measured at magnitude 3.0 and higher rattled the Salt Lake Valley Thursday morning, more than a week after a 5.7 quake rocked the Wasatch Front.
According to the KSL TV Earthquake Tracker, a magnitude 3.3 incident struck a little more than four miles west of Salt Lake City at 10:12 a.m. That was followed by a 3.0 quake about 10 minutes later.
About 10 total aftershocks were recorded before 11 a.m. Thursday, ranging from 1.1 to 3.3.
Keith Kroper, director of the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, said the aftershocks are normal and they could continue for weeks after the initial incident.
“In terms of what people should expect, they should expect hundreds to thousands of more, smaller earthquakes, (and) aftershocks that are going to play out of the next several weeks,” Koper said on March 18 after the 5.7 earthquake.
As of 10:43 a.m., we have had 10 aftershocks today, the largest of which was a magnitude 3.3 and would not have been felt much farther away than the Salt Lake Valley.
One aftershock appears to have been a 3 and most other aftershocks have been magnitude 2 or less.
