Lincoln Ave. In Ogden To Stay Temporary Closed For Officer Nate Lyday Memorial

OGDEN, Utah – A makeshift memorial that started with officer Nate Lyday’s police vehicle has grown in front of the police station on Lincoln Avenue in Ogden.
Lyday was killed in the line of duty on May 28 while responding to a domestic violence call.
“… We will mourn for a short period,” Ogden City Police Chief Steven R. Watt said at a press conference Friday. “But more importantly, we will celebrate that he lived and that he was one of us.”
Natalie Goeckeritz was one of the many friends, family, former co-workers and first responders who attended the conference to pay their respects.
“I’ve been real emotional,” she said. “This one has hit home.”
Those who knew him described Lyday as a “fantastic” young man who had a passion for police work.
Watt said Lyday came from a family of law enforcement. His father was an officer for Davis County, and his brother works in code enforcement for Ogden.
He was also about to celebrate his fifth wedding anniversary with his wife.
“We are grateful for officer Lyday, for his service, his friendship and his example,” Watt said.”
He said the street in front of the Ogden City Police Department, 2186 Lincoln Ave., will remain closed for the time being.
“We invite and welcome any and all persons who feel so compelled to come here to visit and pay tribute to our fallen brother, officer Nate Lyday,” Watt said. “May God bless the Lyday family, the Ogden Police Department, and the United States of America.”
