Timpanogos Cave Volunteer Dies During Trail Patrol

AMERICAN FORK, Utah – A volunteer at the Timpanogos Cave National Monument died during a morning trail patrol Thursday.
Several agencies responded to a 911 call of an unconscious man who was found approximately 1.2 miles up the Timpanogos Cave Trail at 6:05 a.m.
Crews were not able to revive the volunteer identified as Kevin Bodily, 57.
Bodily had been a member of the park’s volunteer trail patrol program since 2016, officials said.
“Kevin was part of the Timpanogos Cave family. Without pay or fanfare, he dedicated himself to being here almost every morning helping others enjoy the park,” said park superintendent Jim Ireland.
He would hike the trail several times a day while on patrol to check on other hikers and make sure they were safe. Before joining the volunteer trail program, Bodily hiked the trail daily for more than 10 years. He was recognized by park staff and visitors as an advocate for the park and an example of fitness.
“Our deepest condolences go out to Kevin’s family and friends,” Ireland said.
