Pools, Playgrounds, Parks Reopening In Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – COVID-19 restrictions in Salt Lake City are easing Friday, but residents are asked to remain vigilant.
After months of being in the Orange Phase of the state’s reopening plan, the city is transitioning to the Yellow Phase – the same phase the majority of the state is currently in.
The switch happens at 10 a.m.
This will mean pools, playgrounds and parks will reopen and groups of 50 people or fewer can gather again as long as those individuals are practicing social distancing. Entertainment venues and events in Salt Lake City will also be allowed to operate as long there are social distancing measures in place.
Residents are still required to wear face coverings in public spaces where social distancing is not an option as part of the Salt Lake County mask mandate.
The transition to the Yellow Phase comes after a decline in new COVID-19 cases in the city since July 13, Mayor Erin Mendenhall said.
She noted that the two zip codes most impacted by the virus – 84104 and 84116 – have recently seen “stabilization or reduction.”
Gov. Gary Herbert announced on Thursday that the city’s request to move to the next phase had been approved.He also announced that Sevier County would move from the Yellow Phase to Green.
