MILBURN, Utah – Two suspects accused of firing shots at deputies in Sanpete County have been arrested, according to authorities.

Police said 50-year-old Brett Gilman Johnson and 42-year-old Jamie Carol Cleghorn-Wheeler were taken into custody without incident by the Utah County Metro SWAT Team around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, ending a two-day search.

“The capture comes after two days of scouring the Milburn area, which involved following footprints and following up on possible sightings called in by residents in the area,” officials with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said two Sanpete County deputies and a Fairview police officer were serving a warrant in Milburn when the shots were fired.

Both Johnson and Cleghorn-Wheeler are wanted in Wyoming.

The two fled into nearby mountains after the shots were fired.

Teams from several law enforcement agencies including the Utah Department of Public Safety, Utah County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT team, Snow College Police Department, Ephraim Police Department, Fairview Police Department, Utah Department of Corrections and other agencies assisted in the search.

Johnson and Cleghorn-Wheeler were located about 3/4 of a mile northwest of their residence Thursday.

“We would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies involved in the search specifically Utah County SWAT,” Sanpete County officials said. “We would also like to thank the public for their diligence in being alert and providing leads, which were crucial in locating the fugitives.”
