NEPHI, Utah — One man was arrested overnight after he allegedly led officers on a high-speed chase while traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 15 in Juab County.

Dispatch was first notified of a wrong-way driver on I-15 around 11:40 p.m. Friday.

Troopers then located the vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes just north of Nephi.

They attempted to stop it, but the driver, 43-year-old Cory Roy White, took off, reaching speeds of about 100 miles per hour, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Gordon.

A trooper was eventually able to pull ahead of White’s vehicle and ram it on the highway near Mona, causing both vehicles to be disabled.

White was ordered out of the car at gunpoint, handcuffed, and put in a patrol car while his vehicle was searched.

According to police documents, the officer found an open container of alcohol that had sprayed all over the car and on White’s sweatshirt during the crash.

The driver was checked out by medical staff on scene before requesting to be transported to the hospital.

Upon further evaluation, it was determined that White was under the influence of methamphetamine.

The officer on scene said when he asked White why he was driving the wrong way on the freeway, he said he thought “it was all a dream.”

He was booked into the Juab County Jail on charges including reckless driving, speeding, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and driving under the influence.

White estimated that this will be his third DUI, which the officer later confirmed by looking at his record.

White was already on probation in Orem at the time of the chase, which contributed to police asking that White be held without bail.
