SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Many people are stressed and anxious about the future, and one sector is feeling the strain directly related to the pandemic: health care workers.
An organization called Mental Health America surveyed medical professionals and found that COVID-19 is pushing them to the breaking point.
“There’s no disputing that an extra 100,000 people are hospitalized right now,” said Paul Gionfriddo, CEO of Mental Health America. “That’s 100,000 more people that nurses and nurses aides and doctors and other health care workers are all having to care for.”
He said 90% of health care workers are experiencing stress and anxiety, and eight out of 10 said they are feeling “emotional exhaustion.”
Gionfriddo urged anyone who is feeling the same way and may be headed toward mental health issues to visit MHAScreening.org where resources are available.
