SPRINGVILLE, Utah – A Springville High School teacher who was accused of sexual harassment and bullying has resigned, according to Lana Hiskey, Nebo School District communications director.
“The Nebo teacher in question has resigned from their position and is no longer employed with Nebo School District,” Hiskey said in a statement Wednesday.
The teacher, whom KSL-TV has not named because criminal charges have not been filed, was placed on paid administrative leave earlier Wednesday.
More than 100 people protested outside the high school Monday and over 3,000 signed a petition to have the teacher fired.
The district launched a formal investigation Monday after two students filed complaints. Current and former students also lodged serious allegations of sexual harassment and bullying against the teacher during a short walk-out.
“I organized this walk-out to get this teacher fired,” said Frida Gomez-Rios, a senior at Springville High. “The way this teacher treats the girls in his class is disgusting. He looks at them provocatively and he’ll make comments about their love lives, make suggestions about what they do with their boyfriends. It’s disgusting.”
The teacher taught in the district for over 30 years.
