Gov. Cox orders flags to be lowered in honor of Sen. Harry Reid

SALT LAKE CITY— After the passing of  former Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, Gov. Cox announced flags at state facilities would be lowered to half staff.

Both the flag of the United States and the state flag will be lowered on the day of his interment which will be announced in the days to come.

Leaders across the country including presidents and politicians from Utah and Nevada mourned the former senator and made remarks honoring his legacy.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, died Tuesday at 82 following a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Reid, a Democrat, led the Senate under under two presidents, Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Barack Obama. He retired in 2016.

Reid has deep ties to Utah as an alumnus of Utah State University class of 1961, double majoring in history and political science.  He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. USU shared how Reid has made an impact on many of the students there and returned to the University on many occasions.
