SALT LAKE CITY — A 57-year-old man, who police say is a registered sex offender, has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman.
Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department were called out to the 2300-block of West North Temple around 7:20 a.m. Sunday.
“Officers responded and began an investigation which resulted in detectives assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit responding to the scene,” read a press release Monday from the SLCPD.
Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital for a sexual assault forensic examination.
“Based on the investigation, detectives booked Gregory Bane into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of forcible sodomy and two counts of forcible sexual abuse,” the release continued.
According to police, the victim and suspect are not related and were not in a relationship with each other.
Court documents state the victim in this case “has diminished mental capacity.”
