SOUTH JORDAN, Utah— There are countless stories of Utahns stepping up to help the people of Ukraine. A bakery in South Jordan is now offering a sweet gesture: for this week only, they’re selling “Ukraine Flag Flakies,” and all proceeds will go to Ukraine.

John Mercier opened Flake Pie Company in the middle of the pandemic in November 2020.

“It was definitely a risk. We felt that it was something that personal-sized pies was something that was unique.”

Whipping up delicious pies, packed with goodness, and fun, clever names like Peanut Butter is My Jam or When Chocolate Met Caramel – Flake Pie is filling people’s sweet cravings.

Mercier watched with the rest of the world the attack on Ukraine.

“We’re very saddened as a company.”

And wanted to spread a little joy.

“We created this special Ukraine Flag Flakie. It’s got blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and we put that on the inside.”

The frosting is colored blue and yellow representing the Ukrainian flag. They cost $3.50 each or $12.50 for a four-pack. All proceeds will benefit the people of Ukraine.

“We’re super overwhelmed with the outpouring of support for it. We sold just over 200 yesterday alone,” said Mercier.

Mercier has no ties to Ukraine. He just felt compelled to serve up a little cheer.

“We just felt like now is the time. We don’t want to wait another day.”

Proceeds* will go to the Care Ukraine Crisis Fund. You can come into the shop at 1655 Towne Center Dr. in South Jordan or order online at www.flakepie.com.

The deal is through this week only.
