SALT LAKE CITY — A 70-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car Sunday night.
Sgt. Tim Stumm with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the woman, later identified as Marilyn Alleman, was attempting to cross Foothill Drive near 2400 South when the crash occurred.
Stumm said the area is poorly lit and Alleman was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the car remained on scene and cooperated with police.
Officers do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.
“We just believe it was with the age of the woman… and with the poor lighting and trying to cross in an area where you do have high speeds because you’re either (entering) the onramp for I-80 or coming off (I-80) — and it’s going to be difficult to see people, and you’re not going to expect it either,” Stumm said.
Southbound Foothill Drive was closed in the area for approximately four hours into early Monday morning.
Police said this crash marked the seventh traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City this year.
