SALT LAKE CITY — Several people were injured in a stabbing at a downtown nightclub early Sunday.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, a community member approached officers near 146 West Pierpont Avenue and told them about a fight with several injuries around 12:46 a.m.

Several officers were already on patrol in the area “as part of a coordinated effort to reduce crime occurring in this part of the city’s entertainment district.”

The officers responded to the report of a fight and found a man and woman bleeding, but at first officers and paramedics could not determine what caused the injuries. Witnesses provided conflicting information about whether a stabbing or shooting had occurred.

Due to the conflicting information, additional officers responded.

As people left the scene, a different fight broke out between people leaving nightclubs in the area.

According to a release from police, it appears there was a fight between multiple people inside Club Echo that resulted in multiple injuries, but there was never a shooting.  “While on scene, an SLCPD officer used a tourniquet to help slow the bleeding from one of the victims.”

The following were listed as victims:

  • Paramedics transported a 27-year-old woman to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
  • A 20-year-old man was stabbed and left the scene prior to police and paramedics being able to contact him. He later arrived at an area hospital to be treated for those injuries. Paramedics transported him to a hospital in critical condition. Doctors have since upgraded his condition.
  • Paramedics transported a 22-year-old man from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest.  Doctors have since upgraded his condition.
  • A 29-year-old man was injured during the fight but did not require further medical attention at a hospital and was treated on scene.
  • A 21-year-old was injured with a small head wound but did not require further medical attention at a hospital and was treated on scene.

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing and at this point, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information should call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-105402.

The release also stated, “Finally, the Salt Lake City Police Department is disappointed that an online-only news organization used information overheard on police scanners to publish a story on June 5, 2022 indicating there had been a shooting. The information reported in the story was unverified at the time of publication and mostly incorrect.  The Salt Lake City Police Department reminds community members and journalists that information overheard on police scanner traffic is always unconfirmed.”

By policy, KSL TV does not report information from police scanners.
