Vegas police officer shot, killed in line of duty Thursday

LAS VEGAS, Nv. — A police officer was shot and killed this morning when he responded to a domestic disturbance situation near University of Nevada Las Vegas.
At approximately 1 a.m. Thursday officers found the suspect vehicle near University Center Drive and Flamingo Road. Tyson Hampton, 24, was armed with a firearm and fired at officers and a nearby civilian, who was also transported to the hospital.
The suspect fled and was later found near Desert Inn Road and Eastern Avenue, where he refused officers commands and was taken into custody with help from a K-9 unit.
Las Vegas Metro Police Department officer Truong Thai, 49, died at sunrise due to a gunshot wound to his torso. Thai worked with LVMPD since 1999 and was currently serving in South Central Area Command.
