Man pleads guilty to fatal hit-and-run involving West Jordan teen

WEST JORDAN, Utah — The man suspected of killing a West Jordan 13-year-old riding his bike in April has pleaded guilty to two felony charges.
Mason Andrews Ohms, 50, pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony of automobile homicide and a third-degree felony of leaving the scene of an accident involving death on Monday, according to court records.
Ohms could face up to 20 years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines. His sentencing date is on April 23rd, 2023.
According to court documents, the two other charges of obstruction of justice and failing to yield to a pedestrian were dropped due to the plea deal.

On April 26, 13-year-old Eli Mitchell of West Jordan was riding his bicycle home when he was hit by a truck driven by Ohms at 9000 South and 1510 West.
Police say that Ohms fled the scene after hitting Mitchell, and as witnesses began to provide first aid to Mitchell, they wrote down the fleeing truck’s license plate.
A few hours later, police found Ohms at his home in Saratoga Springs and took him into custody.
