SANDY, Utah – It was an exciting day for some students with special needs and their parents in the Jordan School District. That’s because Santa Claus decided to make a surprise visit from the North Pole, ditch his sleigh for the day, and drive a school bus with Mrs. Claus at his side.
“They’re not just students on the bus,” said Rick Waite, Jordan School District bus driver. “They’re my kids.”
Waite said he likes to make the bus a fun place for the kids. He said he’s been driving the bus as Santa for 16 or 17 years. He loves to see the reaction of not just the kids, but also their parents.
“You’d be surprised how many adults go back to their childhood when Santa comes around,” he said.
Maurine Waite, Rick Waite’s wife, joined Santa on the bus this year as Mrs. Claus.
“It just brings so much joy to us to see the smiling faces on the kids,” she said.
