MIDVALE, Utah – A woman said was tied up, threatened with a knife and robbed Tuesday night, and the suspect is still at large.
Unified Police said the perpetrator entered the home through an open garage just before 5 p.m. He encountered the 44-year-old woman, who was in the house alone, and demanded the keys to her husband’s car.
After the victim said she didn’t know where the keys were, the man reportedly pulled out a knife and tied her hands behind her back.
The man allegedly took some other items before fleeing. A neighbor was able to hear the victim’s cries for help and called 911.
The home invader was described as wearing a black mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.
The alleged incident happened on the 7400 block of Maple Street in Midvale. The victim did not suffer any major injuries.
Authorities said garage thefts have been a problem over the past few weeks. In separate cases, police in Lehi said they’ve responded to multiple thefts due to garage doors being left open.
Common entry points for burglars include not only the garage but also basement windows that are left unlocked.
Police said to never leave a key outside the home and, if possible, leave a porch light on.
Anyone with information about the robbery in Midvale is urged to contact the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
