Latter-day Saint Missionary In Portugal Dies After Collapsing At Soccer Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A Brazilian man serving a mission in Lisbon, Portugal, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died Monday.
Joao Victor Rodrigues Gondim, 20, was playing a game of soccer with other missionaries when he collapsed, according to a Church spokesman. The cause of death is uknown.
Gondim, from Sao Paulo, had been serving as a missionary since July 2017.
“Our hearts go out to his family as they mourn his passing,” according to the spokesman. “We pray they will feel peace and support during this difficult time. The Church is working to provide counseling to those missionaries who witnessed the this tragedy.”
