KEARNS, Utah – The mother of a 16-year-old teenager shot and killed in Kearns told KSL today the shooting was “no accident.” Now his 15 -year-old stepbrother has been taken into custody.
The shooting that happened on Monday morning in the area of 5400 South and 5000 West was reported as an “accidental” shooting between two stepbrothers who were playing with a shotgun.
Police said that the gun accidentally went off killing the 16 year old.
The mother of that 16-year-old boy told KSL on Thursday that her son was “murdered.”
“My son didn’t actually shoot himself, [his stepbrother] F….ing murdered my son,” she told news specialist Dan Rascon.
The mother did not give her name. Rascon was told that both mothers live in the same home.
Jessie, the mother of the 15 year old who was arrested would only say that this is a devastating tragedy.
Police are not saying if this is still considered an accidental shooting case. They would only say the stepbrother had been arrested.
“All I can say at this point is that yesterday a juvenile male was taken into custody and booked into detention in relationship to the shooting that occurred on Monday,” said Det. Kevin Mallory with Unified Police Department.
On Monday, Jessie did an interview with KSL saying she had no idea where the shotgun came from.
“We have absolutely no idea. We don’t have guns in our home,” she said. “This is a shock and if I could tell anybody out there teach your kids gun safety and in a blink of an eye you can lose everything.”
