Managing Kids’ Screen Time During Summer

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Without school and regular extracurricular activities during summer, kids’ screen time is almost sure to increase.

So what should parents do to keep a handle on how often their children are on their devices?

Experts have a few suggestions:

• Allow kids to earn screen time by finishing chores
• Control access to the internet by shutting off WiFi or through parental control apps
• Parents should limit their own screen time

Another option is to encourage children to use apps that put them outside, such as geocaching and augmented reality apps. Moderation, though, should always be key
