Park City Water Main Break Causes Large Sinkhole

PARK CITY, Utah — A water main break caused a sinkhole overnight in Park City, authorities say.
The water problem started about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Park Avenue and Fifth Street, according to a tweet from Park City Fire District.
The water department was called to the scene, but the line ruptured while crews were trying to fix the leak. A large amount of water ran down the street, according to the fire district.
Some debris washed into the street, and one or two nearby restaurants experienced some flooding, according to Park City Public Utilities Director Clint Mcaffee.
Water crews and city officials worked to control the leak and manage the water, and the scene was cleared up by about 1 a.m., the fire district said.
However, sometime after crews left the scene at that time and 5 a.m., a sinkhole developed, officials said.
People are asked to avoid the area until the sinkhole is repaired. This story will be updated at KSL.com as more information is released.
