BOUNTIFUL, Utah – Authorities have issued a citation to a Layton couple accused of starting the Gun Range Fire.
The fire started above Bountiful Aug. 29. It burned approximately 200 acres, forced the evacuations of hundreds of homes and destroyed three houses.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ashlyn Nelson and Jeremy Flores were ticketed for leaving a campfire without fully extinguishing it. The citation carries a potential fine of $250 with no jail time.
The couple were given a mandatory court appearance in October. Officials with the U.S. Forest Service said this was done to give prosecutors more time to review all aspects of the case.
Nelson and Flores could possibly face separate civil litigation, officials said.
