Alleged Burglar Breaks Into Adult Store By Punching Holes Through Roof

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A man was arrested early Tuesday after workers and police said he caused extensive damage at an adult store.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Charles Phillip Higgins, 32, first tried to enter Mischievous, 559 S. 300 West, by kicking in the outside rear door.
When that failed, police said he headed up to the roof, where they said he created three separate holes before falling through the attic.
“He didn’t get off with anything, but the damage to the building is significant,” said business manager Morgaine Fehlauer, who believed the repairs could cost well into the thousands of dollars.
Fehlauer said the man had apparently “shopped” through the store’s warehouse area, collecting a box full of adult items.
“He had about 15 different spandex hoods presumably, uh, for hiding himself in the future,” Fehlauer said. “It seemed that he really was interested in enhancing his personal stash.”
After triggering an alarm that brought one of the store’s owners to the site, police said the man was found “hiding among the merchandise, covered in insulation from the ceiling.”
“It’s unfortunate that he was so determined to get in that he tore our whole roof off in the process,” Fehlauer said.
Higgins was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary and criminal mischief.
“It was just one very determined guy,” Fehlauer said. “We’re going to have to do a lot of cleanup after this.”
