WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Firefighters battled a blaze overnight at an industrial building, and officials will be assessing the damage Tuesday morning.
Approximately 60 firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the incident at approximately 10:15 p.m. Monday at Advanced Fluid Systems, 3005 S. 3600 West.
Advanced Fluid Systems services and sells industrial pumps, according to the business’s website.
Officials said there were already heavy flames and smoke when firefighters arrived, and the nature of the building posed a threat as well.
“This is an industrial area,” said Scott Hall, Battalion Chief for the West Valley City Fire Department. “A lot of these businesses do have multiple hazardous materials within them. When we arrived, that was already on our minds in this area. ”
The owner was able to confirm to authorities that there weren’t any major hazardous materials inside. There were some gas cylinders present, but officials said they weren’t at risk.

Hall said the building is made of metal, so there was a high level of heat and smoke. Initially, it wasn’t safe for firefighters to enter the structure.
Crews were eventually able to work their way inside to get the fire under control, but it took approximately one hour.
No injuries were reported.
“Nobody got injured, no fatigue issues,” Hall said. “It went as well as it possibly could for such a large amount of fire late at night.”
There’s significant damage to the building, and officials said inspectors will be on site Tuesday morning to evaluate the building’s stability.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
