STANSBURY PARK, Utah — A man was arrested and booked into the Tooele County Detention Center after he fired shots outside an Anytime Fitness, according to officials with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office.
Lance Milner, 34, was booked into jail Tuesday and could face charges of aggravated assault, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Lieutenant Travis Scharmann with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office said people inside the gym said they thought they heard gunshots around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday.
According to court documents, Milner was banging on the back door of the Anytime Fitness and an individual went and opened the door to see what was going on.
Milner then entered the building and the individual told police Milner was pointing a handgun at him.
The individual grabbed the gun from Milner and ordered him to the ground before an off-duty detective, who had just arrived at the gym to workout, detained Milner until police arrived, according to court documents.
Scharmann said spent bullet casings were found outside the gym and court documents said a magazine full of live rounds was found in the area.
Milner was in possession of a 9mm handgun, two knives and was wearing a tactical AR-15 sling around his chest, according to court documents.
Police said Milner was unable to sit still and talk about realistic things and told police a woman popped up in the backseat of his vehicle while he was driving.
Milner also told police the female was chasing him and that he was shooting at her, before admitting he may have used methamphetamine.
Police said they could not find any evidence that someone was with Milner and his car was packed full of belongings that there would be no room for anyone in the backseat.
