Utah Shoppers Still Waiting For Delayed FexEd Packages

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah – Dozens, maybe hundreds of Utah Christmas shoppers are anxiously awaiting their holiday gifts after FedEx Ground missed the delivery date — not once but multiple times.
KSL TV first reported on the issue Dec. 14. Since then, multiple viewers have reached out to tell their stories – including those who are missing more than just gifts.
Some viewers have reportedly been told by FedEx officials that their packages have been sitting in trucks on the lot in the North Salt Lake distribution center. They said the delivery company’s representatives said the distribution center seems to be a problematic place.
There are no apologies from FedEx, and officials said the company is working through high volume to deliver packages.
“We’ve never had a problem with it being delivered. (It) always arrives,” said Monica Atherton, whose family has food delivered by FedEx once a week.
However, there have been no deliveries on each of the last two Tuesdays.
“Both times, the box had entered the North Salt Lake FedEx facility and departed and arrived, departed and arrived, but never made it to our house,” said Atherton.
Some viewers said they have been getting the same kind of tracking misinformation on their packages. Others said they’re also missing food deliveries.
“There’s raw meat in those boxes,” Atherton said. “So, I don’t know what’s happening with them. I know that I don’t really want the food anymore.”
Even more important is their daughter’s gift from Santa, which was ordered with plenty of time. Now it’s stuck on a FedEx sleigh.
“It’s an American girl doll, ordered on cyber Monday to get the good deal,” Atherton said.
She said it was shipped two weeks ago. She was informed online it was being delivered six days ago.
“OK great. It’ll come,” she said. “And, that’s going on since the 12th. It’s out for delivery, and then nothing happens.”
A call on her part to the distribution center did little to clear up the situation — nor did a visit to the distribution center from KSL TV.
Reporters were told to contact the media hotline.
Saturday, KSL TV met a woman waiting on critical pods used to deliver her insulin into her body. She’s been awaiting 10 days, now. She’s having to make other plans for her critical medicine before she leaves for the holidays.
One viewer waiting on gifts for 15 days said, “When you call them, they say that their entire ground crew quit and all of our items are on stationary trucks.”
Another was told the Salt Lake office is a week behind. Others have been told delays are due to the volume of the Christmas rush.
“I’m getting incredibly nervous that it’s not going to arrive by Christmas,” said Atherton. “Very nervous. This is her Santa gift. This is what she’s been asking for for months.”
FedEx sent KSL TV a statement attributing the delays to “high package volumes.” They said they are trying to prioritize urgent medical shipments.
“FedEx continues to experience high package volumes as holiday shipping deadlines are upon us,” according to the statement. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as we work closely with our local service providers to implement contingencies, such as securing additional resources, to ensure holiday deliveries are made as soon as possible. With respect to specific customer inquiries about urgent medical shipments, we are working with our local facilities to prioritize those efforts.”
